In simple terms, thrush refers to a medical infection which is fungal in nature. Most cases of the thrush infections are due to the fungi - Candida Albicans. These fungi are naturally present in the gastro-intestinal tract, mouth, vagina and on the skin. They can affect the head of the penis and this is called Candida Balanitis when they cause a swelling of glands on the penis. These fungi are harmless in the body however, any changes in the body conditions can cause an infection which is due to a significant increase in the number of these fungi. There is also a possibility that these fungi increase in number in the body when they are introduced through external sources like drips, drug abuse or during surgery but in developed countries this would be rare.
Thrush infections can seriously affect the quality of life of an individual. This is perhaps the reason why many people infected with Thrush look for treatment options rather than waiting for the body's immune system to fight the infection. While such treatment options will take time, prescription thrush treatments can bring some relief to the infected people very quickly and they are simple to administer.
A thrush infection, if not treated timely, can cause a lot of irritation and also become the cause of several other health related conditions. In some people, the Candida fungi can proliferate and enter the bloodstream affecting or infecting other parts of the body. This can cause eczema, blotchy and dry skin, itchiness, sinus related troubles, sleeplessness, diarrhea, bloating, constipation, mood swings, craving for sweet foods and food allergies. In order to avoid any of the above mentioned conditions, it is important to seek immediate medical attention. (more...)
